Down and dusted

With the house nearing completion and withe the demise of SALA Homes, I have decided to close the blog on the building of "The House". Thank you to all the people who  made comments and read of our journey from a 1970s brick home to a more environmentally efficient lifestyle. It was an epic journey and one which will cotinue for some time now that we havethe landscaping to do - aaarrrggghhh.

Can you please elaborate on the “demise of Sala Homes”? There is no indication on their website (http://www.salahomes.com.au/2008.html) nor can I find anything via Google. We were aiming to construct a Sala home at the end of 2009. Are we out of luck?

Having left SALA in November, I am a little unclear as to the entire story. From what I know, the owners decided to wind up the company as of January this year citing the economic downturn as the major cause. It is a business that works on low margins and relies on a certain turnover which, when times get tough, is not always there. I do know that liquidators have been appointed and bot SALA and Habitat Hardware are no longer trading. The ASIC web site says that on January 22 SALA directors submitted form 505J which is "Notification of Appointment of Liquidator (Creditors'
Voluntary Winding Up)".

We, too, were hoping to build a SALA house in 2009-2010. Are there any contacts worth following up? It would be tragic if such expertise were to disappear....

This is a shame to hear. I really liked reading your blog about the construction of your house, Bruce.

As a bit of a plug, I am now planning a monthly event called "Green Drinks Brisbane", which aims to link people with a common interest in sustainability. Check out our webpage: http://www.greendrinks.org/index.php?country=Australia&city=Brisbane
