Huzzah - a form 21

Now, for many of you, these infrequent postings may be a bit bizarre. But time has not been in great quantity of late.

Couple that with the death of my trusty laptop, blogging has become a luxury rather than something to be done while sitting-up in bed late at night. None-the-less, this "lack of time" has been fruitful. You may know that for some time we have been building a new house. Well today we were given our form 21. A form 21 is a compliance certificate which signals the end of the building process and the certification that the house has been built to comply with the Australian building code. It is a momentous occasion for the owner builder.

Of course, many people have gone to contribute time, friendship, skills and shoulders over the past four years - from an idea to a house. Thank you all.

Oh that the work was finished... we still have a list of things to do which rivals the Murray-Darling for length. But hey, we'll get there. The vegie patch is in and you can hear the corn growing. Today's job - finish staining the internal staircase. It's a time to think while listening to the radio and painting stains onto stairs. All this will come t an end soon as I will have to get back into the workforce. Anyone know of a job going?

SALA Homes

I have had a few people tell me that they were gong to buy a SALA home and ask if there are any remnants of the company remaining. To be brutally honest, I don't know. I have heard that Scott Elsom is in Iraq as a project manager of a factory being built. Other staff are around the traps and there was a rumour that the builder who was SALA's nominee (building licence holder) may be doing something in the kit home space. But I don't have more than that. I will see what I can find out.

Mike Duggan from Four Walls and a Roof is ex-SALA and doing a lot in the ESD space. (http://www.fourwallsandaroof.com.au/) There are others around too. Adrian Lewis, the Estimnator extraordinaire from SALA, went to work with Steelbuilt Homes and the other wonderful staff have taken up a variety of positions - most outside the industry.

Sorry that is not much help but if I hear more, I shall post it here.

Down and dusted

With the house nearing completion and withe the demise of SALA Homes, I have decided to close the blog on the building of "The House". Thank you to all the people who  made comments and read of our journey from a 1970s brick home to a more environmentally efficient lifestyle. It was an epic journey and one which will cotinue for some time now that we havethe landscaping to do - aaarrrggghhh.
